Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 6, 2027. It is a quiet holiday in Tupelo: no citywide parade or festival was on the 2026 calendar, but schools, the city’s recreation office and the Aquatic Center close, and trash pickup shifts for anyone whose day falls on the holiday. The big September events come the weekends after.

Labor Day weekend ideas
- Friday night football: Labor Day weekend falls in the high school season; schedules are on our Friday night football page.
- Lakes and state parks: Tombigbee State Park, about six miles south, has a 90-acre lake; Trace State Park in Belden rents boats and paddleboats; Elvis Presley Lake is free to enter. Swimming is not allowed at Tombigbee or Elvis Presley Lake. See our parks and trails guide.

The 2027 calendar is not out yet. In 2026, Tupelo’s September included:
- Touch-a-Truck, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, Veterans Memorial Park: a free event where children climb on trucks and heavy equipment, with a sensory-friendly hour from 9 to 10 a.m. before horns and sirens from 10 to 11 a.m. (Tupelo Parks and Recreation)
- Celebration of Cultures Festival, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, 2 to 5 p.m. at The Depot: cultural dancing, singing and food. (Tupelo Parks and Recreation)
